This work is a self portrait and came from one of my personal photographs. I was initially drawn to the playful nature of the piece even though the photograph was taken during a period or mourning in the house. The child can be seen as a ghost or apparition who has spooked the cat in the mothers arms and the mother is consequently struggling to hold on. For me, it is important that these darker tones within the piece are balanced with the joyful busyness of my day-to-day, creating a dark humour which I enjoy.
Acrylic paint on canvas board- framed in a white wooden frame.
