Formations and landscape painted from my location sketches in the Canyonlands of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. Rugged and beautiful, the severe landscape of the Canyonlands is at times surreal. Formations and cliffs emerge from the ground, hundreds of feet high - sometimes much more. Red, yellow, white limestone and slickrock. Sometimes in the desert heat, incredible "anvil" clouds like this form in the sky. They're hypnotically beautiful and I love trying to capture their power in paint.
