Through my studies of ancient art I have fallen in love with Egyptian art.
Figure in this painting is Anubis, god of death, embalming, funerals, and mourning ceremonies. He has head of jackal.
He is measuring heart of the deceased against a feather of truth (Ma`at), Anubis dictated the fate of souls. Souls heavier than a feather would be devoured by Ammit, and souls lighter than a feather would ascend to a heavenly existence.
