Original artwork description:

Painted on-site at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. An early spring landscape featuring a Magnolia tree of the variety named "Anne", whose large flowers are deep magenta on the outside and light pink on the inside of the petals. The magnolia is accented by a tall pine tree directly behind it, and is flanked by two purple rhododendron bushes. The scene also shows a path winding through the garden, fresh, yellow-green spring foliage, and a tree whose branches are still bare. Painted with oil over casein paint on board. The soft, matte texture and watery effect from the casein paint is seen in the grass and sky. The sky is additionally accented by a glaze of dripping blue paint. Thick texture in the flowers and evergreen branches was applied with palette knife. Framed in a 2.5" wide wood frame with a mahogany brown colored finish. May be purchased unframed by request.

Materials used:

oil paint, casein paint, iridescent oil paint, board
