Original artwork description:
A plein air painting created on-site in Minneapolis. Features a close-up view of a magnolia blossom from a tree of the variety called "Anne". Blossoms of this type of magnolia are large and display the colors of deep magenta, fuchsia and pink, the color being darker on the outside of the petals and lighter on the inside. This blossom was painted outdoors and the background was created in studio with a 3-step process of masking the flower, creating the dripping and splashing effects in the background with casein paint, and finishing the surface with oil glazes. The background contains varied shades of blue with hints of purple and green. This piece is framed in a 3" wide wood frame with a black finish and is ready to hang. Total framed dimensions 13x13x1". May be purchased unframed by request. Small enough to fit in any space, or makes a great accent for a larger piece.
