This modern interpretation is hand-painted in Indian ink onto book pages from an antiquarian copy of Leo Tolstoy book, Anna Karenina, which is a Moscow published edition, from nearly 100 years ago.
At first glance, the character seem to engage with the narrative printed on the pages as if she is an outside observer, mirroring you - the viewer of the artwork. Upon closer inspection though, the narrative written on the pages shines through the superimposed characters and brings her alive as a reflection of the novel itself, transformed through the modern-day lens of the viewer.
The work is beautifully mounted on quality canvas and robust sustainable wooden stretches.
