Artwork description:

Shot the night before I lead a residential workshop. I’d driven through Dorset looking delightful in snow, but I pressed on because I was concerned about getting over Bodmin Moor. Seeing conditions looked good, I went straight to the beach to shoot. It was really lively in the strong North-Westerly wind, but the waves, clouds and stormy sunset light made me glad I’d gone. I made several exposures on Large Format sheet film, this one had the best positioning of the sunset light on the sea and wet granite rocks. I was grateful that the hailstorms on either side missed me. When driving to my hotel afterwards, the road was almost completely white, covered in marble sized hailstones.
It's one of my favourites and when they first saw the transparency, my children immediately said, ‘we need to have that printed large in the house’. It's still on the lounge wall and we have yet to tire of it.

Materials used:

Giclee print using Canon Lucia Pro Pigment inks on Heavyweight Fine Art matte paper
