Today, I’d like to present my new pastel painting featuring a group of jugs. While they may not be ancient, they are quite old and handcrafted in Morocco, a country known for its rich cultural heritage.
I’m particularly drawn to items with a touch of antiquity and originality. These jugs, with their imperfectly shaped walls, are a perfect example. Their surfaces are already covered with a patina, especially the green pitcher. Originally, it wasn’t green but copper. As you may know, copper oxidizes over time, developing beautiful shades of green and sometimes turquoise.
I don’t often come across such intriguing objects, but when I do, I feel compelled to either paint them or at least photograph them. For this piece, I wanted to capture the essence of these jugs using dry pastels.
To better convey the unevenness and roughness of the vessels and the steps on which they stand, I made the pastel paper myself. I took colored paper, applied two layers of a special primer for pastels, and then mounted the paper on cardboard to create a firmer surface.
I hope you found this story interesting and that you will appreciate the painting itself
