Val is the oldest part of the city. The place where Chernihiv was born. Several ancient structures have been preserved here to this day. The Transfiguration Cathedral was built in the 11th century. It served as the main temple of the Chernihiv-Seversky Principality and the tomb of local princes. Now it is a functioning temple-museum.
