Original artwork description:

“An Ultimatum,” a painting about notes and letters, this one received by the seashore. In the age of SMS and emails, it seems a bit nostalgic, but a handwritten note is perhaps the more effective for all the more personal form of communication than one sent on an electronic device.

This piece was painted in the southwestern tip of Brittany, in the Sud Finistère, in August of 2022. It is not an oil sketch but its painterliness seeks to embody the fleeting moments of a vacation. It does not want to be fussy but it also wishes to define a pensive solitary figure in a space filled with wind and water and movement. The figure is looking away towards the sea but is reading the note in his hand. The dog by his side though is fully engaged and looks directly at the viewer.
