Original artwork of the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands painted on canvas and stretched on double wooden bars.
After having visited the city over ten times I have fallen in love with this city. To represent the entire city, and not just one view, I combined the most famous landmarks of Amsterdam in one painting and used blue as a representation for the proximity of the city to the ocean and the canals. I included some iconic cliches of the town like the redlight district or the marijuana use.
Detailed description:
The Rembrandt Monument can be seen in front of a few typical Amsterdam buildings. Above those houses towers the Royal Palace. To the right and left you can find the churches of Amsterdam and some of the towers like the Munttoren and the de Gooyer Windmill.
Small icons can be found all over the painting. The sculputure of Anne Frank is standing on one of the houses, De Waag dangles with the Rijksmuseum from one of the towers and the bicycles that populate the streets of Amsterdam ride across a rope high about the cityscape.
The redlight district is being represented by a little Peepshow booth in the corner of the painting and the marijuana leaf on the royal palace shows the legality of this drug in the city.
