Third in the series entitled 'Birds on Slate' where I capture scenes containing wonderful British wildlife, plants and flowers.
This summer there was a little family of house martins nesting in the roof of a barn nearby. I used to see them swooping across the garden, busy with the seemingly endless task of feeding their new chicks. I wanted to depict their graceful flight and place it against a backdrop of vivid colour. Sweet peas seemed like the perfect choice as they were also busy growing vigorously in my garden! Their bright pinks, violets and creamy whites really help the house martin's dark plumage to stand out!
This piece is painted on reclaimed Devon slate.
