The alpenglow is the phenomenon where the setting/rising sun (behind the viewer) paints the snow covered slopes shades of pink with purple shadows
I first saw this in 1971 in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland, and have never forgotten it.
Then this view last year from Chamonix.
