Artwork description:

All that remains..... on Orkney there are many abandoned houses, little crofts (farms) that have been beaten by the storms. All that remains are the gable walls with their chimney stacks facing out towards the sea. The soft golden sandstone of Orkney is sculpted into soft rolling hills, sand dunes and dips filled with crystal clear water. It is a place of calm and peace and also of memories. From here, crofters crossed the stormy seas to new lands in the americas. Hardy men used to working in the harshest climates travelled to Canada for work. But all that remains now to mark those difficult times are the gable walls and crumbling chimneys. Orkney nowadays is a beautiful place to visit and regain a sense of balance.

This is the canvas version but this also looks amazing printed on my beautiful fine art paper at the same price, if you prefer paper please request it before purchasing. There is also a portrait orientation of this print as another listing.

I am driven to capture the essence of a place with my camera, working with the colours and shapes to create images that connect us to the history of a place. I travel to remote islands, to places steeped in history, unspoilt beaches and wild rocky coastlines where I love to work in quiet solitude.

This is the canvas version but it can also be printed on paper or in other sizes. Just ask if you have any questions.

I photograph and print every image, I do not outsource any part of my workflow. Each canvas has been painstakingly crafted to ensure the true colours, resolution and texture are exactly as they should be.
