I wanted to draw the Alkonost bird from Slavic legends.
As a child, I admired the fabulous paintings of the great Russian artists Bilibin and Vasnetsov, and dreamed of painting my birds Sirin and Alkonost when I grew up.
This drawing was included in the series of my fantasy works "Keepers of Apple Orchards".
Alkonost sits on a magical apple tree growing through the clouds. She flaps her wings as if she wants to hug the whole world.
Watercolor paints and multi-colored liners were used. The drawing is made on high-quality watercolor paper.
According to legend, the mythical bird maiden Alkonost sings so wonderfully that people, having heard her song, forget everything in the world. But the magic bird does no harm. She sings songs of joy and is a symbol of God's grace and help. It seems to me that in moments of sadness we would all like to remember that there is also joy in the world.
The size: 21 x 30 cm.
