Original artwork description:

'Alibi' - Latin, 'Everywhere'

Mixed media sculpture created from a piece of beach driftwood, embroidery, mounting card and mirror.

Inspired by Bali.
The wood has been painted with acrylic paint and gloss varnished. The outer green resembles the Canang sari which are the daily offerings to the gods. The inner has been painted in the same pattern as the weathered wood in shades of pink, red and orange.

The embroidered pattern has been taken directly from the painted wood pattern, also representing the lava flows from Mount Batur.

The mirror is the sun or the moon, providing reflection that a place such as Bali creates for a person in spirituality, creativity and experience.

I find the Balinese culture, smells and colours extremely inspiring and this piece was created immediately upon my return from travelling there in 2016.

Materials used:

wood, embroidery thread, acrylic paint, mirror & mounting card
