Many of my works are about the connection of people with places. Everyday rituals like walking the dog or doing a local shop are deeper experiences than we might give them credit for, they seem mundane on the surface, however underneath the constant repetition of these rituals binds us to the place we live in, and we call it home. If we walk a dog regularly we are companions, visiting the nearest space that is good for the dog to run around, individually we interact with the environment in different ways. The dog moves fast driven by the sense of smell, chasing birds and running after another dog, it follows a meandering path, we however walk a predetermined path - we know in advance where we are going. In the painting I wanted to describe the relationship between the dog and its owner. The painting was begun on location at Alexandra park in Leytonstone.
