This "Alcock and Brown" print is one of a series of prints that I have created to celebrate the centenary of the daring Transatlantic Crossing by Captain John Alcock and Lieut. Arthur Whitten Brown in 1919.
They set off from St Johns , Newfoundland on 14th June, and landed some 16 hours later on 15th June, at Derrygimla bog, Clifden, Connemara, in the West of Ireland.
This year, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of their achievement.
The print is created with a watercolour chine colle background on Chinese rice paper which is adhered to Fabriano paper, and overprinted with a photopolymer intaglio plate. The backgrounds in the series of prints are very different, and thus, this is classified as a monoprint.
