Painted near Le Tholonet, site of Cézanne's studio, where I spent some time painting outdoors around the locations used by Cézanne. My Professor at Leeds, Sir Lawrence Gowing was a world expert on Cézanne and we were privileged to hear his specialist research and insight over two years. Cézanne quickly became a rôle model for his persistence, focus and commitment to observational painting.
