Agrainage- Quelles Bêtes or Feeding wild animals- what beasts/idiots

Acrylic, fine liner and silver leaf on 250gsm paper

A new work to show on the topic of hunters feeding the wild animals they shoot.

At first it may seem a touching sentiment, especially during seasons, where food is scarce. However (with that first sentence of course there's a 'however') the feeding of animals such as wild boar and deer during winter is devastating for forests.

During the winter months wild animals lose weight and usually the weakest will die off. Agrainage artificially swells the population who will later go on to strip the bark from trees, which is essentially a death sentence for the trees. These trees that go on to die would have provided food for the animals in the Spring/Summer/Autumn with their acorns, berries and nuts, but due to overpopulation caused by agrainage they never will. So by feeding them in Winter you starve them in Summer, which then causes more forest devastation as the starving wildlife population munches on yet more bark and sapling trees.

The vast chunk of this idea was inspired by a couple of books by Peter Wohlleben wonderful reads that they were!

Materials used:

Acrylic and ink on paper
