I love Van Dyck, I think in terms of portraits he has no equal.
I have painted this to learn more about Van Dycks methods and found the exercise very enjoyable and productive.
I chose the portrait of François Langlois as I think it shows great character and movement.
I have slightly changed the composition from the original portrait slightly by giving the dog more body and in turn giving the figure of Langlois more length. I have also extended the background window compared to the original.
The painting is much richer in the life such as in the shadows and the flesh, there is a little glare but that is down to the paint surface.
