I've painted so many pictures on this subject I've lost count. So for simplicity's sake, I'm calling it red.
First of all, it defines and exacerbates the mood. And mood is the foundation of this series.
Emotions, of course. We don't see the expression on this girl's face, and thank God. But the pose of despair and fatigue tells us everything about her mood this night. The color helped again.
And finally the dramaturgy. Again thanks to the total red we realize that the state of her soul is at a critical point.
A disturbing picture, but accurate.
