Original artwork description:

I came across this composition of earthy autumnal colours close to my home in Germany and decided to make it the subject of a painting. I was inspired by the mass of stalks glinting in the autumn sunshine contrasted against the dark base of the trees. There are three levels here – the distant woods in soft grey-browns under the blue sky, the more vibrant oranges and yellows of the trees in the middle ground with their lower part in shadow and the very pale stalks of corn in the foreground. There is further contrast in the dark earth between the stalks. The large tyre marks in the foreground are a reminder of the heavy machines that were at work here to sever the stalks. There is added interest in one or two stalks that have been left standing, if slanted, above the short stubble of the others. This is not a spectacular subject but is meant to convey the beauty that is sometimes to be found in the simplest of things.

This original watercolour painting was painted on 650g, 100% cotton rag, mould-made paper using Windsor and Newton watercolour paints and it comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.

Materials used:

650g, 100% cotton rag, mould-made paper
