Original artwork description:

Study after The Last Judgement by Luca Signorelli in Orvieto. Signorelli was one of the first masters of human anatomy and his wiry muscular figures are best seen in this series of paintings in Orvieto Cathedral. Michelangelo is known to have made studies after them and undoubtedly learned something about human anatomy and muscular structure from them. My study traces the inner structure of the figure, stretching, muscles taut, as if expressing the slow awakening of the resurrecting body after the long 'sleep' of death. I used a very fine 9H pencil because it is very sharp and hard and allows you to make very defined, clear lines.

Materials used:

Pencil on Fabriano Paper
