Two studies on the same sheet of an Angel from Leonardo's Last Judgement drawing. The Angel, or St Michael, blows the last trump on the Day of Judgement, to awaken the Dead from their slumbers. The noise, for one used to perhaps centuries of quiet, is deafening and they cover their ears. I tried to catch something of the energy of this rousing trumpet call as it shakes the Dead awake.
