Original artwork description:

Observing seasonal pruning and weeding of plants and considering recent events, I noticed a parallel - between the ethnic and the aesthetic.

In this context, lace serves as a metaphor for an imagined, artificial (but traditionally rooted) concept of beauty.

Ethnic cleansing, as an act of violence and discrimination, occurs in various parts of the world and results in the extermination and expulsion of population groups based on their ethnic identity. This process is primarily driven by political, economic, and socio-cultural factors. It is worth emphasizing that ethnic cleansing relies on the rejection of the "other" and poses a threat to cultural diversity and identity.

On the other hand, weeding out non-aesthetic plants is a process aimed at removing unwanted non-native species from the natural environment. This action has its roots in biodiversity preservation and ecosystem conservation. However, the definition of what constitutes "non-aesthetic" plants largely depends on cultural and social standards.

The concept of aesthetics, imagined for this parallel, can help us understand how our perception of beauty shapes our actions and attitudes towards other cultures and nature. It encourages us to consider how our understanding of beauty can be condemned or changed and how it can be used to justify actions that violate human rights or natural ecosystems.

It is important to remember that ethnic cleansing and the weeding of non-aesthetic plants are different phenomena with distinct consequences and implications. However, by examining them through the lens of art, we can open up opportunities for understanding cultural and ecological diversity.
