Original artwork description:

This painting depicts a decorated face of a girl dressed in preparation for the Dipo puberty rites celebrated among certain tribes in Ghana.Before the ceremony young girls who have had their menstruation for the first time are secluded from the community for weeks and taught secrets of womanhood, managing their home when they get married,and so on.They undergo this training in the hands of elderly women in the society.
During the ceremony girls are dressed exposing most parts of their body,since its a time when they tell the world they are ready for marriage.In this work i have added more decoration with ornaments to cover the chest.I have used lots of colours to decorate the face.
