I'm fascinated and inspired by Adelphi Paper Hangings dual-fulcrum presses. Adelphi makes wallpaper that is meticulously reproduced from original documents and hand-printed using the same methods and materials employed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

So I asked the owner, Steve, an engineering question about the big press they use. He graciously responded by giving me his actual press plans. I built a smaller version of his big wood cut press which fits in my studio, based on those plans.

I used eight 2x4s plus a one-ton engine hoist to convert my 200 lbs and 20 inches of throw into the 3000 lbs per square inch foot-powered "Adelphi Block Press," aka The BEAST.

This image is my version of Adelphi's logo.

This is a multi-impression linocut block print shaped from einstein tiles. Previously, I had been limited in the scale of the pieces I could create using my standard 26" intaglio press, but now size is no longer a limiting factor.

Multi-impression linocut block print. Paper is 11" x 10", image is 10" x 8". Oil on Stonehenge paper, with deckled right edge. Finished sizes vary slightly. Limited edition of 8.

Materials used:

Multi-impression linocut block print, oil on Stonehenge paper, with deckled right edge.
