This portrait was created in 2007 and is one of a few studies for a larger self portrait piece I worked on for the 2008 BP Portrait Prize entry I submitted. The painting is painted in Prussian Blue and Flake White oil paint.
The painting is an example of my expressionist mark-making using a limited pallet of colours, exploring simplicity, minimalism and extreme perspective through the selfie culture of the mobile phone image.
I was exploring how the mobile phone photographic image changes the way we see ourselves from an extreme angle shot and the use of limited colours to explore the form of the body.
The painting is not stretched and is on a flat piece of canvas. Would look great framed behind glass as a free floating canvas in a box frame made by a professional framer.
