Original artwork description:

Acraea and Arethusa is an original painting by Amy Devlin. My process starts with taking the photographs I work from, I like to experiment with angles and light in the photographing. Every inch of the canvas has multiple layers on to build up the feeling of light, water and body, every layer focusing in on more detail until there is a balance of tight detail and watery fluidity. Every summer I do a number of photo shoots and then spend the rest of the year exploring them from different angles. Some of my favourite shots are from below the surface as you get all the lovely reflections on the top of the water and all the amazing reflections on the body. I love the way the tones change in the play of light across the skin. I think reflections of light on bodies are one of my favourite thing to paint. I loved the way the light hits both of these swimmers differently, and the figure further back glows slightly.
