Travelling on the Docklands Light Railway in London recently, I was fascinated by the cityscape outside and loved the contrast between old warehouses and new architecture.
I began by drawing my impressions in charcoal, to reflect the age and dustiness of old London buildings, while contrasting them with abstract hard painted shapes. I wanted to include the curves of the railway as it wound through the city.
Although this painting has travelled a long way from its original line drawings, I hope it conveys some of the atmosphere of this part of London.
