Original artwork description:

The Salt Sea Weed of the Green Waters
Abstractions from Venice - part of a recurring series in which I explore the greens, the insubstantiality and light qualities of Venice. Working towards abstraction gives the elements I am interested in the freedom to take shape in the painting.
Poetry and painting mingle together in these paintings of Venice as I remember the light airy canals, the vast planes of sea, the flat slivers of light.
Watercolour let loose seems to be the most appropriate and expressive medium for this subject.
The watercolour painting is unframed on heavy weight archival paper
Size of painting
16 x 12 inches
All pictures will be carefully wrapped and securely shipped to you wherever you are.
All of my paintings are original and handmade by me.

Paintings will be sent to you unframed, (unless otherwise stated in the description) and protected with cellophane or paper, in a re-enforced padded envelope or recycled box, on a Tracked Delivery service with the Royal Mail or Parcel Force International for large items.

Venice
Samuel Rogers (1763–1855)

THERE is a glorious city in the sea.
The sea is in the broad, the narrow streets,
Ebbing and flowing; and the salt sea-weed
Clings to the marble of her palaces.
No track of men, no footsteps to and fro,
Lead to her gates. The path lies o’er the sea,
Invisible; and from the land we went,
As to a floating city,—steering in,
And gliding up her streets as in a dream,
So smoothly, silently,—by many a dome,
Mosque-like, and many a stately portico,
The statues ranged along an azure sky;
By many a pile in more than Eastern pride,
Of old the residence of merchant-kings;
The fronts of some, though time had shattered them,
Still glowing with the richest hues of art,
As though the wealth within them had run o’er.
