An abstract landscape in deep blue. This series of paintings have a calming effect, 2020 has famously been a very stressful year and many people are living through grief, trauma, financial anxiety and depleting mental health. This is why I started creating these calming paintings, they helped me through this time as they allow me to paint with no rules or restrictions, allowing complete freedom on the paper.

The horizontal lines and the soft sinking water effect promote a calming feeling. Look closely on the smaller details to enjoy the impression of trees reflecting on water, often pushing beyond the boundaries of reality, for example sometimes the reflections are retold twice. The larger smooth reflections on the lower sections of the paintings represent the weight of the things we are dealing with under the surface but also the sensation of taking a deep calming breath.

This is painted on Fabriano paper, a beautiful, heavy, textured watercolour paper.
