In this series of paintings, I explore the possibilities of conveying the volume and perspectives of various spaces, landscapes or interiors with minimal artistic means.
These geometric abstract paintings explore the subtle balance between order and chaos, darkness and light, structure and freedom.
First layer is built with plaster or modeling paste. Acrylic washes are dabbed or poured on the wet plaster/paste. When the surface is dried I manipulate it by sanding and scratching. More layers are added by repeating this process. The under painting process I use lends itself to creating organic forms, which I then tighten up with structural forms. This layering technique mirrors the larger theme of my work: the hard edges of our structured world contrasted against the organic forms of the natural world.
Plaster, texturizing tools, palette knife, acrylic washes, oil paint
