Original artwork description:

Oil on canvas. Width 80 x Height 60 cm or 31.5 x 23.5 inches. Signed. With a certificate of authenticity. Ready to hang.
Abstract Blue River IV is inspired by the colours found around the coastline of Devon and Cornwall. In shallow water rivers leading into the sea become a mixture of emerald, turquoise and blue; contrasting with the deep indigo blue of the sea.

This painting is part of series looking at the play of light on water. It is a more tranquil and peaceful contrast to the first energizing wave series. Above all I am intrigued the patterns created when sunlight hits the shallow water creating a dance of light and shadow with blue, turquoise, green and indigo ripples.

Both series have been inspired by the changing colours of the sea but also childhood memories of holidays to the Mediterranean and annual visits to Torquay (before the M5 was built). These emerald and turquoise waters, have all had an influence on what I wanted to paint.

My paintings are oil on canvas as I prefer to work with this medium for its adaptability. In my work I aim to incorporate a process of change and development.

I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Teignmouth based artist.

In conclusion, I am a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark and a member of the Devon Artist Network.
