Swans in flight over Pebble Beach!
This is a large mixed media painting on fabric. I have used a heavy cotton fabric as the base for this painting. To start with I dyed the part of the fabric that was going to be the sky. I used thinned acrylic paint for this. I then used a beautiful light blue lace from a vintage evening dress to create the sea. I have used a medium to glue the lace on and then I have painted over the lace with acrylics in several layers and colours to create real texture and an impression of water. At the bottom I have glued on drift wood which has been cut into discs to create the idea of a beach and I added various different turquoise beads and some little wooden beads too. I painted in between the discs of wood with a sand coloured mix of acrylic paints to further enhance the idea of the beach. The outline of the swans and the horizon has been stitched using my sewing machine. I then painted the swans using acrylics again. The painting has been backed with a heavy cotton fabric and there is a channel at the top so it can be hung from a curtain pole or similar on a wall.
I have signed the painting on one of the little wooden discs.
I am showing a photograph where it is hanging here in on of our B&B rooms so you can get a sense of the size.
