Original artwork description:

The village of Abinger Hammer in the Surrey Hills used to be an industrial village, one of the iron villages of the old Weald. Today it is tranquil and picturesque. It took its name from the nearby hammer pond, which, in the c17 and c18 centuries, drove a huge hammer for forging hot iron into shape.
The iron industry moved north permanently when Abraham Darby discovered how to smelt iron using coke, in Coalbrookdale
The iconic striking clock was installed in the c19 and dominates the Guildford-Dorking Road

Materials used:

Cold pressed watercolour paper
