In 2016 I spent a year Photographing the areas immediately surrounding every station on the entirety of London's vast underground system. I started on the January 1st 2016 and 430 tube stops later I finished on the 24th December of the same year
The sum of this work is available in a hard bound book published in 2017 - In this series I've selected my favourite photo from each line to offer as a limited edition print
My selection for the Victoria line and the penultimate image in this series was taken in Vauxhall.
At this point in the project I was quite frankly struggling.
I was into my 12th month of sitting on tubes day in, day out. Summer had passed and aside from being rather mentally drained the December light (or lack of) was poor leaving me frustrated and feeling generally a bit grim both photographically and otherwise.
Taking this photo instilled some much needed colour back into the project and I've chosen it primarily as a sunset such as this is a fairly rare occurrence in December in London. As i'm sure you're aware sunsets aren't exactly scarce in the photography world and while I initially hesitated to include this in my selection for this series, I feel it depicts a rare moment of beauty in an otherwise often bleak London skyline
