This painting was inspired by the very sudden memory of being in the British Museum many years ago in the 1980s, and seeing the most wonderful Japanese print of a woman combing her long black hair. I will never, ever forget it.
It had the most stunning blue in her kimono.
(It's a famous image and easily found online)
Here in my version I've made her tend to her hair with her fingers rather than a comb.
I've kept to the palette of blue, white and black but couldn't resist putting a dash of cerise into it!
Drawn and painted in:
*Derwent Inktense watercolour pencil on
**Khadi Indian handmade paper.
Available unframed.
Packed carefully and sent by Tracked Delivery
Certificate of Authenticity included.
*Derwent Inktense watercolour pencil are beautiful water soluble pencils, which when dry become permanent.
**Khadi Indian handmade paper is a 320gsm handmade cotton paper from India with a pleasing deckle edge. I like to present this paper unmounted/unmatted to make a feature of the edge (just an idea) ... so it is possible to float the painting in a simple 'box frame" - easily purchased online.
