"A Wilder Place" takes you walking through the beautiful moors. This place is close to my home and is one of my regular haunts where I hear the sky lark ascending, the curlew and the cry of lapwings. With a gentle Summer sky and tones of purple, green and red in the wild bracken your eye will wander over the textures in the foreground to the delicate clouds in the distance and follow the path through the heath.
An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with highly textured acrylic paints on thin edged canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters such as scumbling and glazing. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies somewhere between abstraction and realism.
Painted in acrylics on a thin edged canvas, the sides are white, the painting is ready to hang and is supplied unframed.
