As the owner of a very lively spaniel I spend a lot of time walking in woodlands just like this one, and of all the places one might choose to be there are few that come close to the simple magic of an English woodland on a summers day.
Although my little dog is not in the painting I like to imagine him scampering ahead, just out of sight, nose twitching as he follows some indescribably fascinating scent- or so he tells it anyway!
These timeless places never fail to remind me that even in the midst of a busy life there is genuine pleasure to be found in simple things like a walk in the woods.
