The mighty Forth Rail Bridge has long fascinated me. As a child I was a little afraid of it. It featured on tins of Edinburgh Rock, on packets of fudge, on fading postcards that I kept hold of over decades. Memories of Christmas walks with my father, under the terrifying girders, and the indescribable thrill as trains trundled overhead, in a seemingly impossible and reckless feat of engineering. Nothing beats the excitement of crossing the bridge at night and walking down to the shore on the north bank, and even now the bridge holds me in awe. This work, based closely on my own photography, is created from acrylic paint, with the use of paper to add texture. The canvas is 0.4 inches deep and can therefore hang without a frame if wished. It is a perfect souvenir of Scotland, a great gift.
