This picture was inspired by an exhibition of the famous marine artist Ivan Aivazovsky, which I recently visited in the State Russian Museum in Saint-Petersburg.
It is a highly detailed oil painting. I applied many layers of colour to create a transparent quality for showing the play of light.
This painting depicts a sea during the storm and a ship pushed up by a great waves. Sun light reduce the sea's apparent menacing overtones и gives hope for a happy ending. This painting shows the destructive side, and beauty of nature.

Hanging hardware is included.
