Orkney is an archipelago of small islands off the north coast of Scotland. The remoteness of these islands and the deserted beaches have allowed me to capture the essence of peace and solitude. My work is all about the emotional connection we have to a place and the moment in our memory when we felt such intense pleasure looking at a landscape. I am driven to capture the essence of a place with my camera, working mainly with the colours and shapes I see when I half close my eyes. I travel to remote islands, to places steeped in history, unspoilt beaches and wild rocky coastlines where I love to work in quiet solitude.
