Original artwork description:

This piece is part of the Salon de Taverny, 23/09/2022 to 02/10/2022, Salle des fêtes, Place Charles de Gaulle, Taverny 95150, France.

Sunbathers lounging by a pool. One of the bathers is looking at his phone, the other looks up at the bright late-afternoon summer sun above. There seems to be a mirage, an apparition, a giraffe seems to be walking by on the other end of the swimming pool, suggesting the possibility of impossible phenomenon occurring during moments of unexpected intense visual stimuli, either in real life or in painting.

There are a number of references to Egyptian elements in the scene. At the right far end of the pool, there is a fountain of a baboon figure with a jet of water coming from its mouth. There is also a kneeling golden worshipper close-by.

The title of the painting is based the fifth “Fleur du mal” by Baudelaire where he praises the youth of human history, during antiquity, when there was a complete unadulterated embrace of beauty, the song of birds, the perfume of flowers and the golden rays of the sun.

Materials used:

Oil on linen canvas
