Original artwork description:

NEW Original One of a Kind acrylic artwork is another addition to our environmental conscious project called "Save the Sails". It is created on discarded sections of sailboat sail canvas. These artworks are for the special GREEN-minded people who are like me in that they hate to discard things that can be repurposed. Especially into works of Art.

The title of this large 31 x 29 inch artwork is, " A Holy Epiphany! " It is an artwork that concerns the story of the ship captain, John Newton, around the year 1772. John Newton was a terrible despicable man. He was the captain of a slave ship. One day he must have looked inside his soul and saw the truth. He repented and became a very religious man. He wrote the song "Amazing Grace" which has become one of the most recognized Christian songs of all time. For me this painting depicts the wonderful possibility that no matter how much of a monster you have become.... through God and Jesus Christ you can be saved and redeemed. YOU have a second chance!!! This painting is not of John Newton himself but a painting of a man in a similar situation. I am sure John Newton is not the only man that discovered he WAS a MONSTER and wanted to change that. Self included! The Character in my painting is below deck of his ship and is reading the RED LETTERED words in his bible. The Epiphany hits him like a bolt of lightning and he realizes he is a monster destined for hell. The light of the candle flickers in the tears of redemption flowing down his face. The red candle represents Christ's Crucifixion. The blood of Jesus flowing down the cross. Through the porthole behind him you can see a lighthouse sending out light into the darkness. This represents Jesus being the light in our world pulling us from the darkness of sin.
It is my favorite Tall ship story because it always gives me hope to push on myself.

NOTE: As you can see these sections of sailboat sail canvas are very rustic. They are unraveled on the edges and some slightly wrinkled... like a piece of a sail found on the beach. They are also seldom perfectly square due to the characteristic of its ability to stretch with the wind. For me this just adds to the essence that this is indeed a piece of sailboat sail canvas... perhaps from a lost ship at sea! Let your imagination soar with this one! I feel it would look great hung on a wall with tacks, or matching colored push pins. Some of my clients hot glue a dowel rod to the top and hang it by sea rope or string. YOU can even participate in the creation of this artwork by unraveling it more on the edges if you want to make it look more distressed. Contact us if interested for a discussion or to make a respectable offer.
