Original artwork description:

Dexter is the resident greeter at my chiropractor's office. The first time I came I was surprised and charmed by this gentle dog calmly walking into the waiting room to welcome me. He has the most luscious white eyelashes, and is open to petting and cooing - but only to a point. After his brief visit he will withdraw to his place in the nearby hallway and relax, till the next lucky visitor comes through the door.

I was so taken with Dexter I asked to photograph him, which led to this drawing. It is my first pet portrait. Soon after making it I saw him again; and when I put my hand under his chin and looked into his face I was intrigued to see all the details, many of which I had captured. I can't imagine getting that close to a human subject.

This is a small portrait - 4 x 4 inches - which comes in an 8-ply museum board mat, with outer dimensions of 11 x 14 inches, suitable for a standard frame.

Materials used:

Colored pencil, ink, graphite pencil, bristol board
