I occasionally have the chance to paint on the west coast of Scotland, and I relish it every time. In this view we see the cottages of Camusterrach (near Applecross) with the Cuillins (on the Isle of Skye) in the background, the big one being Blà Bheinn.

I love this painting for its depiction of rural life in the Scottish Highlands, where I spent my childhood. Sheep wander among the rusty corrugated iron shed rooves, rowboats and brightly coloured bouys litter the shingle shore in front of humble dwellings, all looked over by majestic mountains.

I do all my own framing, and this is no exception. I chose a modern grey moulding with a white inlay to really bring the view into focus. This piece would give a cozy warmth to any living space, and bring with it a characterful story.
