Once I asked a friend of mine to pick a subject for an artwork - just anything that was appealing to him at that very moment, anything he would like to get visualized. And that was it - "a doorway to another world":)
This is quite a popular idea in fantasy artworks, and there are a lot of beautiful ways to depict it, but I knew from the very beginning what I was going to draw. I had once seen a door amid a pine forest (I even have a photo of it somewhere). Well, actually it was a doorframe placed near a tree, with the door itself closed. And seeing this I had an impression that if I opened it, I would find out something... unexpected, different from the forest around.
So for me, this artwork is a mix of fantasy and my real experience. Moreover, the paper is from an old soviet album which I found among my family's long-forgotten documents and memorabilia. I love its yellow-brownish colour, drawing on it feels like touching history.
