Original artwork description:

"A Distant Land" was inspired by the beautiful warm colours of the moors in Summer. This is one of my regular haunts where I hear the song of the sky lark, and the curlew. Delicate clouds drift over a clear blue sky and light falls over tones of ochre, green and red in the wild bracken. Your eye will wander over the textures in the foreground to the mountains in the distance.

An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on a thin edged canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists and some of the methods of the old masters such as scumbling and glazing. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The result is a contemporary painting, which lies between abstraction and realism. The sides are painted white, a frame is not provided and there is a cord and wire at the back so it is ready to hang.
